2nd Star’s Jane B. Wingard Scholarship
Jane B. Wingard was a Founding Member of 2nd Star Productions, as well as the company’s first President and Artistic Director. From her knack for mounting professional-level musicals to her masterful, award-winning sets, Jane's influence touched so many lives and will forever reach every aspect of 2nd Star. Jane taught art and theater for 30 years before retiring and becoming a professional scenic artist, completing works for major events in the DC/Baltimore/Annapolis area and the decor for two casinos. She was the winner of eight WATCH Awards and numerous nominations, mostly for set painting. She was married to actor Martin Hayes, and all of her children, grandchildren and some great grandchildren have appeared on stage, which made her very happy.
2nd Star’s Scholarship program is named in honor of Jane, and is intended to:
• Encourage participation in theatre in general, and 2nd Star in particular.
• Reward individuals with a demonstrated record of active involvement in 2nd Star.
• Foster life-long appreciation for and support of community theatre.
Each year, 2nd Star volunteers can apply for one-time $500 scholarships. Applicants must be prospective or current full- or part-time college or trade school students.
Applications are open from approximately November to February each year. See below for a link to more information and the most recent year’s application form.
