Direct with Us

Have a show you’re passionate about bringing to life? 2nd Star Productions invites proposals from directors for our upcoming season — including both our mainstage productions at the Bowie Playhouse and our smaller-scale show/event program.

2026–2027 Director Show Proposals

2nd Star’s Season Selection Committee has begun the process of selecting a slate of shows for our 2026–2027 30th Anniversary Season, and we would love to have your Director show proposal submissions!

You may prepare proposals for more than one show. You will have the opportunity to indicate your first choice and whether any additional shows are equal alternates or secondary choices.

Director applications are due by Sunday, November 9, 2025 at 11:59 p.m.

Season Selection Goals

As a community-based educational theater, 2nd Star seeks to produce shows that:

  • Excite and engage our local community in Bowie, Prince George’s County, and the surrounding areas

  • Reflect a wide and diverse range of experiences and stories

  • Offer inclusive, educational, and mentorship opportunities for volunteers

  • Include at least one production that features youth performers or is family-friendly

Suggested Show List

Each year, 2nd Star’s Season Selection Committee curates a shorter list of titles from a long list of audience and volunteer suggestions, that best reflect our mission, goals, and the kinds of productions we feel that we can uniquely bring to life. These selections represent the committee’s artistic interests and the shows that most strongly align with 2nd Star’s vision for the upcoming season — works that feel like a natural fit for our community, volunteer base, and creative resources.

While audience appeal, diversity of storytelling, and practical considerations such as rights and scale are also taken into account, this list highlights shows that the committee would be particularly excited to see take shape on the 2nd Star stage.

Please note: You are not limited to these titles in your pitch. We welcome proposals for any show that aligns with 2nd Star’s mission, values, and season goals.

Mini Show/Event Proposals

Want to explore a new idea, direct on a smaller scale, or develop a cabaret or reading?

Our mini show pitches are a flexible platform for creative projects that expand 2nd Star’s programming and give new or returning directors and producers the chance to create in a lower-budget, shorter-timeline setting.

Proposals may include, but are not limited to:

  • Cabarets or concerts

  • Short plays or one-acts

  • Staged readings

  • Educational workshops

  • Limited-run musicals, including youth or senior shows

Typical Format:

  • Rehearsal period: 2–6 weeks

  • Performance run: 1–2 weekends or single-night event

  • Venues: Bowie Playhouse or alternate local community spaces

Mini Shows are ideal for emerging directors, producers, or creative teams interested in building experience and experimenting with new ideas.

To apply:

  • Complete the Mini Show Proposal Form →

  • Email optional support materials (script excerpt, resume, concept notes) to artisticdirector@2ndstarproductions.org

We especially encourage proposals that provide learning opportunities for new directors, designers, or performers, or that advance 2nd Star’s DEIA and accessibility goals.
