Productions & Season Selection

How We Create Theater at 2nd Star

2nd Star Productions produces three to four shows each year at the Bowie Playhouse — primarily large-scale musicals featuring live orchestras and extraordinary community talent.

While we have historically occasionally present plays or plays with music, musical theatre is at the heart of what we do. Our productions are designed to bring people together — whether they’re first-time volunteers or lifelong theatre lovers.

Guest Directors & Volunteer Production Teams

Each 2nd Star show is led by guest directors and volunteer production teams who bring their own creative vision and expertise to the stage while working within 2nd Star’s mission and artistic standards.

Directors, designers, and stage managers are chosen through an open application process that welcomes both new and returning artists. Our goal is to provide opportunities for local theatre-makers to grow, collaborate, and create meaningful art in a supportive, community-focused setting.

Season Selection Process

Every theatrical season is curated by a diverse Season Selection Committee made up of board members and community volunteers.

This committee reviews public suggestions, evaluates artistic and educational value, and recommends a balanced lineup of musicals and plays that reflect 2nd Star’s values of inclusion, learning, and community engagement.

Once approved by the Board of Directors, the selected shows become part of 2nd Star’s next season — typically announced each summer for the following year.
